The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched visa amnesty for foreigners with expired documents. The agency sets September 30 deadline for foreigners currently residing in Nigeria with expired immigration documents to come regularize their stay without facing penalties. This programme began in May 1 2025, but just been announced yesterday July 5 2025 in a press statement signed by ACI AS Akinlabi, Service Public Relations Officer at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja, and it's scheduled to run till September 30, 2025 when the grace period will be put to end. According to Akinlabi in the press statement, the Expired Visa Initiative (Amnesty) was introduced "in a bid to enhance compliance with the New Visa Regime and reinforce a secure and transparent migration system" in Nigeria.
