Perplexity has rolled out a new "email assistant" exclusively to its premium Max subscribers. The assistant, currently working on Gmail and Outlook, is built to manage several inbox tasks including scheduling meetings, organizing and prioritizing emails, and drafting replies that match your tone.
The meeting scheduling works in the sense that, when added to email threads, the AI assistant will check your calendars, suggest times, and send invites. The organizing and prioritizing emails are handled through automatic labeling and prioritization, ensuring that important messages are surfaced.
In addition to that, the Perplexity's AI email assistant can so summarize your email and give daily priorities. However, it's important to note that the email assistant is exclusively available to premium members who subscribe to the Perplexity's Max plan,which costs $200 a month.
The premium Max plan was introduced in July to target power users with heavy needs, remove usage limits in key features like Labs, access to newest tools and advanced AI models like this new email assistant, monetize and sustain business, and stay competitive.
It intensifies competition with big incumbents—like Google and Microsoft—who already integrate AI into their productivity tools. So, after you subscribe, you can simply tap into the new email assistant by sending messages directly to a dedicated Perplexity address.
Meanwhile, there are inherent privacy and security concerns about how Perplexity is going to use user's data. Because it needs deep access user's emails, calendar, contacts, and its ability to send emails or draft on behalf, users want to know how data is stored, used, whether emails are used to train models, etc.
But, the company notes that, while the tool won’t use personal emails to train its models, it can still mirror a user’s writing style when generating responses. Lastly, the Perplexity's AI email assistant feature has been officially rolled out today.
